University Overview

Founded in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge, it is one of the UK's oldest universities. It evolved through various forms, including the Harris Art College and Preston Polytechnic, becoming Lancashire Polytechnic in 1984. It was granted university status in 1992, adopting the name University of Central Lancashire. A £200+ million campus masterplan from the 2000s transformed its facilities. Its deep-rooted history is based on providing accessible, career-focused higher education to the people of Lancashire and beyond.
