University Overview

Formed in 2005 from the merger of four long-established art schools: the Kent Institute of Art & Design (KIAD) and the Surrey Institute of Art & Design. The roots of these institutes date back to the 19th century, with Farnham School of Art founded in 1866. It was granted university college status in 2005 and achieved full university title in 2008, becoming the University for the Creative Arts. In 2016, it merged with the Open College of the Arts, further expanding its reach. Its history is one of consolidating specialist art education into a single, influential institution.
