University Overview

Founded in 1796 by Professor John Anderson as the Andersonian Institute, with a vision to create a "place of useful learning" open to all, regardless of gender or class. It became the Royal College of Science and Technology in 1912 and was granted a Royal Charter as the University of Strathclyde in 1964, making it the UK's first technological university. A pivotal merger with the Scottish College of Commerce in 1964 established its renowned business school. Its history is defined by a practical, civic-minded mission to apply knowledge for social and economic benefit.
