University Overview

Founded by Royal Charter in 1967, it was the first genuinely new university in Scotland for over 400 years, established as a "plate glass university" with a modern, campus-based vision. Its architectural masterplan was designed to integrate with the natural landscape. It pioneered the semester system and modular degrees in the UK, offering greater flexibility. A key development was the 2008 merger with the Scottish Agricultural College's Stirling campus (now part of SRUC), enhancing its environmental sciences. It was awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for its work on aquaculture.
