University Overview

Its origins trace back to 1914 as a series of technical colleges in North Staffordshire, which later became the North Staffordshire Polytechnic in 1970. It was granted university status in 1992 under the UK's Further and Higher Education Act, becoming Staffordshire University. A major development was the 2016 opening of its £40 million Digital, Technology, Arts and Media (DTAM) centre in Stoke, solidifying its focus on creative and digital industries. Its history is rooted in providing technical and vocational education to support the local pottery and manufacturing industries.
