University Overview

Founded in 1892 as the Borough Polytechnic Institute, its original mission was to provide technical education to support the industries and working people of South London. It became the Polytechnic of the South Bank in 1970 and was granted university status in 1992, adopting the name South Bank University. It changed to London South Bank University in 2003. Its history is defined by a continuous commitment to accessible, practical, and career-focused education, evolving to meet the changing skills needs of the capital.
