University Overview

Its origins lie in four historic teacher training and liberal arts colleges founded in the 19th century: Whitelands College (1841), Digby Stuart College (1874), Froebel College (1892), and Southlands College (1872). These colleges formally federated in 1975 to form the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education. It became a constituent college of the University of Surrey in 2000, and was granted full university title as the University of Roehampton in 2004. Its history is rooted in pioneering education for women and progressive educational ideals.
