University Overview
Founded in 1949 as the University College of North Staffordshire, it was established to provide a new kind of broad, liberal education in the post-war era. It received its Royal Charter as Keele University in 1962, making it the first new UK university of the 20th century. It was a pioneer in offering dual-honours degrees and a compulsory Foundation Year for all undergraduates, models for which it remains famous. The campus was developed around the historic Keele Hall, and the university introduced its own medical school in 2007.
