University Overview

Its origins date back to 1823 with the founding of the Liverpool Mechanics' Institute, later becoming the Liverpool Polytechnic in 1970. It was granted university status in 1992 under the UK's Further and Higher Education Act and was named in honour of Sir John Moores, a local businessman and philanthropist who was a major benefactor.
