University Overview

UEL's origins date back to 1892 with the founding of the West Ham Technical Institute. It evolved through several mergers to become the North East London Polytechnic in 1970. It was granted university status in 1992, adopting the name University of East London. A major transformation began in the late 1990s with the development of its striking Docklands Campus, one of the first new university campuses built in the UK for over 50 years. Its history is rooted in providing technical and vocational education to the diverse population of East London.
