University Overview

The university was founded in 1966 and named after the influential Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, reflecting its founding mission in technology and engineering. It was formed from the merger of several technical and teacher training colleges. It adopted its current name, Brunel University London, in 2014 to better reflect its location and global outlook. A defining feature from its inception has been the integrated, thick-sandwich degree course, which includes a compulsory, paid professional placement year for most undergraduates.
