University Overview

Its origins date back to 1832 as the Bradford Mechanics' Institute. It evolved through various forms, becoming the Bradford Institute of Technology in 1957. It received its Royal Charter as the University of Bradford in 1966, making it one of the UK's original "plate glass" universities. A pioneering institution, it was the first British university to establish a modern Department of Peace Studies in 1973 and has been a leader in part-time and distance learning for working professionals.
