It expanded into law in 1992 and healthcare in the 2000s. It was granted degree-awarding powers in 2007 and became the UK's first publicly owned, for-profit university (then known as BPP University College) in 2010. In 2013, it was awarded full university title, becoming BPP University. It is named after its founders and is part of the global for-profit education group, BPP Holdings Ltd, which is ultimately owned by the American company Apollo Global Management.
