University Overview

Founded in 1884 as the University College of North Wales, it was a founding member of the federal University of Wales in 1893. It remained a key constituent college for over a century. In 2007, it gained independent degree-awarding powers and officially became Bangor University in 2009 after the University of Wales transitioned to a confederal structure. Its history is deeply connected to the cultural and linguistic heritage of Wales, and it has built an international reputation for research while maintaining a strong sense of place.
