University Overview

Aston's origins date back to 1895 as the Birmingham Municipal Technical School. It became the College of Advanced Technology in 1956 and was granted a Royal Charter as the University of Aston in Birmingham in 1966. A key part of its identity was established in 1955 with the introduction of the undergraduate professional placement year, a model it still champions. In 2020, it simplified its name to Aston University. It has consistently focused on applying its research to real-world business and societal challenges.
