University Overview
Founded in 1963, UEA was part of the UK's 1960s "plate glass university" expansion. It accepted its first students in 1963 and received its Royal Charter in 1964. The campus, designed by Denys Lasdun, is famous for its ziggurat-style residential terraces. UEA has been a pioneer in interdisciplinary study from its inception. It established the first Creative Writing MA in the UK in 1970 and the groundbreaking School of Environmental Sciences in 1967. The Norwich Research Park, a partnership on its campus, is one of Europe's largest single-site concentrations of research in health, food, and the environment.
