The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a public research university and academic medical center located in downtown Birmingham, Alabama . It is part of the University of Alabama System alongside the University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) .
