University Overview

New York Film Academy was founded in 1992 by producer Jerry Sherlock, who envisioned a hands-on film school accessible to anyone with the drive to tell stories. The academy began with a single course in filmmaking held at Robert De Niro's Tribeca Film Center. The founding philosophy was that students learn best by making films, not just studying theory. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, NYFA expanded its program offerings to include acting, photography, and other creative disciplines. The academy opened its Los Angeles campus at Universal Studios in 2003, providing students access to a working studio environment. NYFA has since expanded globally, opening locations in South Beach (Miami), Gold Coast (Australia), and partnerships in China, Italy, and other countries. The school has trained thousands of students from around the world, many of whom have gone on to careers in film, television, and media. NYFA has been recognized for its intensive, practical approach to creative education.
