University Overview

Mt.San Antonio College was established in 1946 to serve the educational needs of the rapidly growing eastern Los Angeles County region. The college was named after nearby Mount San Antonio (Mount Baldy), the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains. Classes initially began in 1946 at the Bonita Union High School in La Verne before moving to its permanent campus in Walnut in 1949. The college grew rapidly throughout the 1950s and 1960s, adding academic buildings, vocational facilities, and athletic fields. In the 1970s and 1980s, Mt. SAC developed comprehensive career education programs that became models for community colleges nationwide. The college has received numerous national championships in athletics and has produced Olympians and professional athletes. Mt. SAC has been recognized for its transfer rates, career education outcomes, and commitment to equity and inclusion. The college continues to expand its facilities and programs to serve its diverse student body.
