University Overview

Diablo Valley College was founded in 1949 as part of the Contra Costa Community College District. The college initially operated in temporary facilities in Martinez before moving to its permanent campus in Pleasant Hill in 1952. DVC quickly developed a reputation for academic excellence and high transfer rates. In the 1960s and 1970s, the college expanded its programs and facilities, adding a planetarium, theater, and vocational education buildings. The San Ramon campus opened in 1978 to serve students in the southern part of the district.
