University Overview

Concordia University, St. Paul was founded in 1893 as a teachers'' seminary by the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. The institution initially focused on training teachers for Lutheran parochial schools. In 1913, the school relocated to its current location in St. Paul's Concordia neighborhood. The college became Concordia College in 1930 and continued to expand its academic offerings. In 1964, the institution began granting bachelor's degrees in liberal arts fields. It became Concordia University, St. Paul in 1995 to reflect its comprehensive academic programs and graduate offerings. The university has been a pioneer in adult education and online learning, establishing its College of Graduate and Continuing Studies in the 1990s. CSP has maintained its Lutheran identity while welcoming students of all faiths. The university celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2018 and continues to expand its programs and facilities.
