University Overview

College of the Canyons was established in 1969 to serve the growing Santa Clarita Valley. The college opened its doors in 1969 with classes held at Hart High School and other temporary locations. Construction began on the Valencia campus in 1971, with the first permanent buildings completed in 1973. The college grew rapidly alongside the Santa Clarita Valley's population in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1999, voters approved Measure C, a bond measure that funded extensive campus improvements and construction. The Canyon Country campus opened in 2007 to serve the eastern portion of the district. The college has received recognition for its innovative programs and high transfer rates to four-year universities. In 2019, the college celebrated its 50th anniversary. The institution continues to adapt its programs to meet the evolving needs of its community.
