Cerritos College

Cerritos College was established in 1955 to serve the educational needs of the growing communities in southeastern Los Angeles County. The college opened its doors to students in 1956 on land that was formerly part of a sugar beet farm. The institution was named after the nearby city of Cerritos, which takes its name from the Spanish word for "little hills." Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the college expanded rapidly to accommodate the region's population growth. The 1980s and 1990s saw the development of vocational and technical programs to meet changing workforce demands. In 2004, voters approved Measure C, a bond measure that funded extensive campus renovations and new construction. The college celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2016 and continues to evolve its programs to serve its diverse community. In recent years, the college has focused on equity initiatives and student success programs.
