University Overview

The university was founded in 1886 as National Business College in Roanoke, Virginia, making it one of the oldest for-profit educational institutions in the United States. It was established to provide business education to the growing workforce of the late 19th century. Over its 130+ year history, the institution expanded from a single business school to a multi-campus university system. It later became National College before adopting its current name, American National University. The institution has evolved its curriculum to meet changing workforce demands, transitioning from traditional business education to include healthcare, technology, and cybersecurity programs. In recent years, the university has focused on expanding its online education offerings while maintaining its physical campus locations.
